Your Fluent Communication Switch

Language researchers discovered that everyone has a “fluent communication switch” in their brain. And DOUBT controls this switch. So if you have a doubt about vocabulary, grammar or pronunciation, your switch remains off, and you struggle to speak. This is true even for your native language, because if you don’t feel confident about discussing something, you won’t speak about it. So the goal of language learning is really to destroy any doubt you may have. As you destroy doubts, you instantly feel more confident, and want to speak!

Unfortunately, most people attempt to turn this switch on by force, with traditional language learning methods, like memorizing grammar rules or translations. However, these approaches typically give you MORE doubts, worries, questions and concerns, which prevent you from speaking.

So how do you eliminate doubts and finally become a confident English speaker?

Introducing “Fluency Triggers”

“Fluency triggers” are what I call insights, visual examples, stories or contrasts or anything else that eliminates doubt. With a “fluency trigger,” you feel more confident that you understand something, so you become more confident, and speak without hesitation. “Fluency triggers” let you learn English fast, so you get fluent sooner!

Here’s an example of a visual “fluency trigger” for the word “run”:

Fluency Triggers

run

With these examples, you can easily see that the word “run” can describe much more than just running with your legs. An engine, vehicle or machine can run. Water also runs when it moves quickly. You can even run a meeting, or run a business. But as you look at the examples above, you instantly feel more confident and certain about your understanding of the word “run,” so you become more confident about SAYING it. And you didn’t need to use any translations, say anything in front of a class, or write the word 20 times. Improvement was automatic! That’s the power of a “fluency trigger.”

When you get “fluency triggers,” doubt disappears, and the communication switch in your brain turns on, unlocking your ability to communicate.

More Examples Of “Fluency Triggers”

The goal when learning English is to get as many “fluency triggers” as possible so you can eliminate the doubts that stop you from speaking, and get fluent quickly. The only thing stopping you from getting fluent is doubt, not where you live, how old you are, how much you study, or even how much you practice speaking. Some examples of fluency triggers include:

  • Visual demonstrations: Visual demonstrations help illustrate the meaning of the word or phrase and grammar, making understanding immediate and clear (like the “run” trigger above)
  • Contextual associations: Associations or contexts help you remember and use language elements without doubts or hesitations
  • Comparisons and contrasts: Highlighting the differences between similar language elements helps enhance clarity and removes doubt
  • Naturally varied review: Variation of speakers, speech speeds, and examples helps you understand concepts faster than memorization or repetition
  • Mnemonics and memory aids: Mnemonics and memory aids help you connect new information with existing knowledge for easier and faster recall

“Fluency Triggers” For Learning Phrasal Verbs

Phrasal verbs are combinations of words that allow us to express things in a simple way, without needing more complex vocabulary. For example, the words “fall down” and “fall over.” You can become a fluent speaker without knowing many idioms, slang words, or proverbs… But you absolutely MUST know phrasal verbs if you want to understand natives and communicate confidently.

In traditional English lessons, you usually get a list of phrasal verbs with definitions or translations. Then, you must study these on your own to remember them. But you’re likely left with many doubts, like about their usage and pronunciation. So your brain’s communication switch remains off, and you struggle to express yourself.

Instead, some story or visual “fluency triggers” can help you understand phrasal verbs quickly and easily. For example, imagine holding a marker, hold it up in the air, so there’s nothing under it. Now, let go, and watch as the marker “falls down.” See the marker moving straight down?

Next, imagine standing the marker standing up in the palm of your hand. The bottom of the marker rests on your hand. But if you let go of the marker, it “falls over.” See the difference between “fall down” and “fall over”? Contrasting these two visualizations is the same way native children learn to speak English fluently, because they’re eliminating the doubts that stop them from speaking. “Fluency triggers” make learning fast and easy. Plus, they can help you quickly understand ANY part of English, including advanced vocabulary and grammar!

How To Get More “Fluency Triggers”

With Fluent For Life, you learn thousands of “fluency triggers” to help you build your English vocabulary and understanding of English faster than with traditional methods. You have access to a massive library in the program, and our complete system of “fluency triggers,” so you can learn what you want, and get fluent as fast as you like. The system removes doubts that stop you from speaking fluently in English. Our app, Frederick: Learn to Read, also uses “fluency triggers” to improve your listening, spelling and pronunciation, the native way.

How Much English Is Needed For Fluent Communication?

Most native speakers only use about two percent of the English language when they speak it fluently. You can also understand most newspapers, TV shows, books and more with only this small amount of English. This is why we focus on the most commonly used English when we teach, and why you can get fluent much faster than most learners think!

How Can I Speak Like A Native?

Using traditional methods of learning rules, translations, repeating phrases, writing and even forced speaking practice, do not work well because they do not remove doubts, or turn on your brain’s fluent communication switch. So if you want to speak English fluently, let our “fluency triggers” eliminate the doubts that keep you silent, and you’ll automatically begin speaking!
